Fedora hats came to be in the late 1800’s. Decades later, the style was adopted as a defining symbol of the Women’s Rights Movement and activists fighting for gender equality. The Prince of Wales started wearing them in the 1920’s, which shifted their popularity over to men’s fashion. Today, both men and women love this classic hat shape. The sleek, timeless shape lets you embrace film noir glamour while enhancing your style and protecting your head and face from the elements all year long.
Classic fedoras feature a range of brim widths with a pinched or indented crown. At Eric Javits, we offer a wide range of fedora hats for both men and women for sale online, which are made either from hand-blocked felt for winter or from our Squishee® sun protection straw for summer. Warm Winter Fedoras
Wool felt is historically one of the most common materials used in creating semi- structured hats for winter. Our classic wool felt women's fedoras are made from sustainable wool shorn and milled from small farms. Multi-use sheep are cared for under the most humane conditions possible. Though our wool is imported, all of our fedoras are meticulously designed and hand-blocked in NYC.
Each cold-weather fedora is hand-blocked and finished by hand. Skilled artisans meticulously apply grosgrain ribbon, tailored bows, air-flow eyelets and leather lacing, enhancing the style of each hat. Most designs are available in a range of colors, including black, shades of camel, and brown. Some are available in lighter shades or bright red so you can find the hat that best suits your style.
The fit of a hat is as important as the fit of a shoe. All Eric Javits hats have elasticized inner bands, which hug the head comfortably. If your head itches while wearing the hat, it means it is fitting too snuggly, cutting off your circulation. If the hat spins around on your head, it means the hat is too loose.
If you are an individual with a special head size, your favorite hat can be ordered in a custom size for a nominal additional fee. Our customer service department can assist you in getting the hat with the correct head size. Hand-blocking is an old-fashioned technique where the felt material is dampened, steamed and then sculpted over a carved wooden hat block. It then goes into a drying oven to set the shape. The hat then undergoes several steps for finishing and trimming. This method takes skilled craftsmanship and time to complete, but we think it's worth it for high-quality hats that are better at retaining their shape. All of our felt hats for women for sale online are hand-blocked.
Summertime Squishee® Fedoras
When the weather warms up, you can still wear your favorite fedora styles in a lightweight, straw-like material that is packable, protects your skin and keeps you cool. Squishee® products reflect a love for the environment. Originally introduced in 1995 as an alternative to natural straw that often cracked, splintered or melted (when wet) it’s a man-made innovative material made of partially recycled plastic, making it a more durable and sustainable than natural fiber.
Squishee® fedoras feature the classic fedora style and the natural beauty you'd expect from raffia straw, but with added functionality. Because of the density of the weave Squishee® hats have received the highest UPF rating, blocking up to 95% of the sun's harmful UVA/UVB rays. You will have confidence that this is a product you can relay on to protect your face, neck and ears.
Escape this summer and take your fedora on every adventure, including beach days, hikes or trips to the city. Our versatile fedora hats for sale online will reflect your personality and become part of you. These shapes are so lightweight and comfortable, you will forget you have one on. Our collection features a variety of styles and colors, including white, natural straw tones, blue, blush pink, cream and black.
The Best of Style and Practicality
When you're on the go, you don't want to take the time to carefully pack a delicate hat. That's why we've designed these fedoras from materials that are durable and packable. Some can be rolled up, others pack upside-down in your suitcase. Fill the hat crown with something soft, like socks or underwear, and use surrounding articles to support the brim. When you're ready to wear your fedora hat, just unpack it. Your hat will regain its crisp shape and clean lines.
Whether you choose a wool felt fedora for cooler weather or a lightweight Squishee® fedora for summer days, your Eric Javits hat will accompany you on many adventures for years to come.
